Placemat Pillows

I was looking at the naked bench next to my front door. It's hard to miss actually...sticks out like a sore thumb. It probably could use a good coat of paint, but I have yet to pick out the color. So until then, I knew I needed something to dress this bench up.

This project was inspired by my lovely, very crafty friend over at Teachin and Preachin. She did not blog on her project, and she really should. You will agree once you see what I made...all thanks to an inspiring friend :)

Placemat Pillows

Aren't these the cutest?!?!? Seriously! Now you see why I had to copy my ingenious friend!! (Let's all go over to her blog and peer pressure her to post more...she makes the best crafts/projects!)

I found 4 matching placemats at Dollar Tree, but only used 3 to make the pillows...1 placemat per pillow. I thought it would be fun to use the fourth placemat to make a flower on one of the pillows...give it a little eye candy :)

Have you ever used a button cover kit? Coolest thing ever and so inexpensive. I bought mine at JoAnn's for under $4. Make sure you buy extra replacement buttons...only 4 come in the kit. And you will love it so much that those 4 buttons will be gone in 10 minutes or less. Buttons on anything and everything...

I used a piece of lime green scrap material for the center of the flower. I covered my button with a white scrap from the fourth placemat. I already had the stuffing for the pillows...leftovers from the cute pillows I made for L's bedroom

Sewing these beauts was super easy. Fold the placemat in half right sides together (or inside out) or in "hamburger style" as I say in my classroom :)  Pin and sew, leaving an opening to flip right side out and stuff. Hand stitch closed. Done. Love these pillows!

Can you believe these placemats came from Dollar Tree??? Granted they were really the only cute ones I saw and they are the exact same ones my friend used...but totally worth every penny...or 400 pennies :)

Yes, the bench is still in need of some love...but she is much happier with her placemat pillows...

These are really cute & I wouldn't have guessed they were from The $Store. I love making pillows from placemats, though, & always watch for cute ones on sale. Love the little flower you added.
